The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician, clinic or hospital. -Mark Hyman
Perhaps the single greatest thing about living in a place like Sunny Acres is community. We are surrounded be people who share interests and life experiences. We have opportunities for countless activities, from concerts to Bingo. We have people sharing their unique talents doing crafts, bake sales, and even music. In a place like this, being together with others can be nearly effortless.
I have not always valued community in the way I do now. I have often sought solitude over company in times where being surrounded by others would be much more cathartic. That is not to say that time alone isn’t important; it is essential to good mental health. However, I think that many of us under value the true potency of community. Being with others, in relationship with other human beings, is a vital part of wellness. We cannot be our complete, health selves without others.
This time of year is filled with activities designed to bring people together. No matter your faith background, we have holidays that encourage us to be with loved ones. Rod and the activities leaders are putting on wonderful events for everyone to take part it. Even if your family isn’t able to be around, your family here, at Sunny Acres, is ready to celebrate life alongside you. I think I can speak for the staff here too when I say that it is our joy and pleasure to do the same.
Go out and be with others! It is part of who you were made to be.
